Experience & Expertise

Nick undertakes work in all of Chambers’ key practice areas, with a particular focus on commercial law, employment law, and public law. He is qualified to accept instructions through the Bar Public Access Scheme. He also accepts instructions from the Treasury Solicitor through the ‘Junior Junior’ scheme.

Prior to coming to the Bar, he worked at Harbour Litigation Funding, one of the largest investors in commercial litigation and arbitration in the world. He also acted as a legal researcher on the jurisdictional phase of an ICC arbitration under a joint venture contract in relation to the refusal of a mining licence.

Nick undertakes a significant amount of pro-bono work and presently acts as a legal advisor at the Waterloo Legal Advice Centre, a weekly drop in legal advice clinic for residents of Southwark.

Current & Recent Work

Commercial & Chancery

Nick’s undertakes a wide variety of commercial work including contractual disputes, professional negligence, and claims involving consumer credit issues. His recent instructions have included:

  • Advising on a pair of claims involving undisclosed broker commissions on secured loans.
  • Advising on the merits of defending a claim for employment agency transfer fees.
  • Instructed on the trial of a claim for professional negligence against a firm of architects.

Employment

Nick first gained experience of employment law whilst at Bar school, where he represented Claimants in the Employment Tribunal on a pro-bono basis. He now acts for both Claimants and Respondents, and his practice covers a broad range of employment issues, including unfair/wrongful dismissal, discrimination claims, and claims under the Working Time Regulations.

Public Law

Nick is currently instructed by one of the core participants in the Undercover Policing Inquiry. The Inquiry is concerned with whether, and to what extent and effect, undercover police operations have targeted political and social justice campaigners. Due to the nature of this work, Nick has been vetted to an SC level.
