Ely Place strikes gold!
Ely Place Chambers has received a Gold award for its recycling achievements during 2018, from its recycling provider The First Mile. This improves on the Silver award that was achieved during 2017. Chambers introduced a comprehensive recycling programme two years ago, overseen by Chambers Administrator Laura Ivanauskiene and Re-cycling “Tzar” Catherine Urquhart, whereby all glass, cans, plastics, non-confidential paper and cardboard generated in chambers are recycled. In 2018, Chambers recycled a massive 8,500kgs of items, offsetting 7.37 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Recently Chambers held a one-off electronic waste disposal day. Barristers brought in old computers, monitors, hard drives and other electronic items to be recycled. All the hard drives containing data were destroyed and certificates of destruction were provided, in line with strict GDPR rules.
Members now hope to maintain their Gold rating with another year of even more careful recycling.
