The ‘atypical’ barrister
Ely Place barrister Catherine Urquhart recounts her experience of joining the bar as a mature pupil in an article for September’s edition of Counsel, the magazine of the Bar of England and Wales.
Ms Urquhart, who was called to the bar in 2010, trained as a barrister after working as a journalist for nearly 20 years. In the article, she explains how experience from her previous life helped her overcome the challenges of pupillage and life at the junior bar, and offers tips for others making such a career change.
